Synopsis :
The Fearless. An army, powered by an incredible new serum that makes each soldier stronger, sharper, faster than their enemies. Intended as a force for good, the serum has a terrible side-effect – anyone who takes it is stripped of all humanity, empathy, love. And as the Fearless sweep through the country, forcing the serum on anyone in their path, society becomes a living nightmare.
Cass remembers the night they passed through her village. Her father was Altered. Her mother died soon after. All Cass has left is her little brother – and when Jori is snatched by the Fearless and taken to their hellish lair, Cass must risk everything to get him back.
My review :
Cass was a little girl when the Fearless appears and took her father away, her mother was pregnant and the world collapse. After seven years, a Fearless come and took her brother, she must risk a lot of thing to get him back. I like Cass, she’s strong, protective with her brother, brave, and Jori is all that matters to her, nothing could possibly get in her way of keep him safe.
Sol is her best friend and he is also in love with her but the feelings aren’t share. I can say that Sol is like his own father and it’s hard to imagine how a boy can end like this.
Myo is a stranger who was captured in the island and saved by Cass. He help her to follow the Fearless who take her brother. I love Myo, he’s a strong man, intriguing character and like Cass he must find his sister but not for the same reasons.
The book is writing in three POV, Cass, Sol and Myo and it’s great to be in their heads.
I can’t tell you much more because I don’t want to spoil you but I can say that the story is amazing even if I suspect the secret of the book.
The end of the book can disappoint many people because Emma Pass is allowed the choice to write a second book or not. And I hope she will.
But for me it’s already a good ending even if it’s not the end, I want the second book because this story could and must continue.
Emma Pass is a great author, she has certain talent to make us feel the feelings of her characters and most of all her story is totally original. I don’t know where she gets all those ideas but it’s a good thing. Her heroines are always strong girls that we would like to be whether it’s Cass or Jenna and the romance is always distant.
If you don’t know Emma Pass, I recommend you to read Acid and The Fearless, her books contain many actions and as I said it previously her stories are original.
And last point, the cover is totally gorgeous.
