Synopsis :
Surfing is sixteen-year-old Iris’s world, and when the ultra-talented Zeke walks into her life, it soon becomes her passion.
Over one amazing summer, as she is drawn into his sphere, she experiences love, new friendships, but also loss, with an intensity she never dreamed of.
But is Zeke all he seems? What hides beneath his glamorous and mysterious past? When Iris decides to try for her own surfing success, just as her ex-boyfriend comes back into her life, she will test her talent, and her feelings for Zeke, to the limit…
My review :
Iris is a young girl who like surfing and one day she meets Zeke, an Hawaiian surfer.
I know, you say to yourselves that the story is a cliché, the beautiful surfer who is going to fail on the girl who also surfs. But it’s not the case, the romance arrives slowly, even too slowly. While there is an immediate attraction between Iris and Zeke, there is no instant love. The characters get to know each other and experience the friendship before more.
Iris is refreshing, she’s not the Barbie type and she likes simple things. She’s not the typical surfer girl and that’s a great thing.
Zeke is absolutely adorable and sweet, he’s a pro surfer, he’s strong and I like very much the way of his mind works. He’s really a great person and I like the way he cares about Iris and the fact that he’s so shy to her because he does not want to scare her.
I also like the other character like Garrett and Wes, Zeke’s brothers. They are so fun and loyal.
And Kelly, Iris’s best friend, it’s thanks to her that Iris meets Zeke and it’s also her who cheers her up if need. She’s a really good friend. I adored the strong friendship between Iris and Kelly, they are so supportive of each other and Kelly’s personality is just so great.
I liked how the book explored the sexism in surf culture and industry through Iris’s eyes. I adored the strong friendship Iris shared with her best friend, Kelly! They were so supportive of each other and comfortable with each other, and I just loved Kelly’s personality.
This book took me on a trip of different emotions, kindness, sadness, anger I felt with Daniel and the love I felt with Zeke. This is a book that when you pick it up, you know instantly you are going to read it so fast as it’s such an easy and addictive read.
I liked the fact that this story speaks about surfing and even if by moment the language barrier was a little bit hard to pass that was a real happiness to discover this world. And now I want to learn surfing, ok I already liked the surfing before this book, especially thanks to Kelly Slater and Rob Machado.
Lisa Glass know how to write a book which can transport you in another universe while explaining to you the morality of certain surfers and their way they live. And I like that.
I can’t wait to read the book 2 but it’s planned for June 2015 so I’m dying here. I want more Zeke and Iris, more Kelly and Garrett, more Wes and Elijah and more surfing.
