Synopsis :
No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…
As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.
As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…
My review :
I have a lot of pleasure with this book. The relation between Curran and Kate deepens even more and I like when they are together.
“Is that your smoldering look ?”
“Yes, I’m trying to communicate the promise of nights of ecstasy.”
In the first part of the book Kate is alone, she musts confront a terrible enemy.
Curran is overprotective in this one and it’s the same thing for Jim. They know that Kate is in danger and make what they can to protect her.
We discover a new character, Ascanio, a young bouda. He likes Kate and the dialog between him and Derek are so fun.
“I’m going to hurt you after this”, Derek promised
Ascanio grinned. “Hey, I just assumed you were saving yourself for marriage, my mistake.”
We see Desandra even more and I think I like her, for now.
I like this book, mostly because the story arrives at a great revelation, we know more and more about Roland and his motives. We know more characters, mostly shapeshifters.
The end is just wonderful, I don’t know where the next book will begin but Ilona Andrews know how to make you love her books. The characters are so intense and smart, she doesn’t hesitate to reveal some information but not too much.
I can’t tell you more because this one is for me the best and really you must read this series absolutely. Kate and Curran are so amazing and the others characters too, so go buy this book and enjoy.
