Shadows of Fate(shadows born 1)

Synopsis :

After witnessing her husband’s brutal murder, Brenna Baudouin lost control of her Shadow Bearer powers and wreaked havoc on her home world. Her penance: one hundred years policing hordes of supernatural misfits that spilled onto the Earthly plane after a cataclysmic war.

She’s on a routine exorcism run when she learns she’s been assigned a new partner. But there’s something about this Shadow Bearer that sparks her suspicions. Particularly when people closest to her start turning up as piles of ash.

Gray Warlow holds tight to the glamour that allows him to get close to the woman on whom he plans to wreak vengeance for betraying his people. Yet as he skillfully manipulates his way past her distrust, he begins to see her not as the heartless monster he was led to believe, but a strong, vulnerable woman.

As they work to put together the pieces of a killer’s macabre puzzle, an attraction deeper than blood and bone flares between them. And they must reveal their deepest secrets to avoid becoming the final targets.

Warning: A thrill ride of supernatural proportions. Contains violent battle scenes, nail-biting suspense, crazy hot sexual tension, and enough twists and turns to make your head spin.

My review :

Brenna is a Shadow Bearer, she has been banished from her world and now she lives on earth.

I like Brenna, she’s a brave woman with an awful father who treats her like a pawn and ask for her banishment. She’s strong and work with Seraph to eradicate all the demons on earth. Unfortunately, Gray is also a Shadow Bearer and he’s her new partner.

Gray has a secret, Brenna betrayed his friends and he wants to take revenge. But the more he’s with her, the more he rediscovers her and understand that we lied to him.

I like the fact that our world knew about the supernatural beings because of experimental warheads which have rendered the surface world unlivable for decades and worn away the Veil separating the planes. It’s original and I like that.

Brenna and Gray are strong together but the fact that Gray kept some secret is annoying for Brenna. The dialogs between them are sometimes hilarious and often hot and unpredictable.

Brenna is a real hero, she doesn’t think twice before acting and she protects her friends and the people she loves. She’s my Hero because I find her brave, 99 years ago she was banished from her home and sent only on earth, in a world where she knew nobody. But nevertheless, she managed to made friends and even if she did not forget her husband or her blood relatives, I find that it makes her force. Sometimes she puts a little of time to understand things but it is also what makes her charm and what makes the history.

Gray is a particularly attractive man with his secrets. It is not a bad man and we understand why he bears Brenna a grudge. I like his authoritarian side, defender and touching. The more we advance in the book and the more he regrets lying to her. I think that Brenna and Gray are a beautiful couple, who made miracles even if it takes time.

I like Seraph, Sam, Hilda and Mira, I think these characters are important in Brenna’s life and future.

The style of the author is simple and pleasant, we are embarked at once on the history. And the idea of the book is great. I spent a wonderful moment with this book and I don’t absolutely regret having read it. Thanks Angela and Samhain publishing for giving me this opportunity. And Fading light will be read soon.

I think I like Samhain publishing, I knew only Sierra Dean and her Secret McQueen series but the more I discover this publishing house the more I like.
