Synopsis (From Goodreads)
Sixteen-year-old Claudia Waring has never kissed a boy. Never been popular. Never been to a hockey game. All that’s about to change. Assigned to tutor Chris Winslow, a prank-loving, gorgeous hockey player, Claudia’s perfectly planned life immediately veers off course. And she kind of likes it. But as fun as Chris is, she knows she’ll never fit in his world.
After his latest prank lands him in hot water, Chris has to get serious about school or lose hockey. Not an easy thing for someone as carefree as the defenseman. The biggest problem, though, is how much he wants to help his cute, buttoned-up tutor loosen up a little. But while confidence has never been a problem for him, around Claudia, Chris is all nerves. Why would a girl as smart as her ever fall for a jock like him?
Review
Claudia is smart, she wants to be an engineer and for that she must tutoring a young hockey player. She doesn’t like sports and her life is programmed by her mother. Her best friend is a book nerd. With the tutoring she’s learning to be more fun and she made new friends. She’s a great girl but she gives too much power to her mother. One moment she knows what she wants and the moment after she talked to her mother, everything changes. I like Claudia when she’s relaxed, she’s trying to be herself and not the person her mother wants.
Chris is a popular guy, he’s a Hockey player and he could have all the girls he wants. He needs tutoring because he has problem with Math and Chemistry and if his notes aren’t better the principal will talk to the coach. Chris likes playing hockey but he doesn’t play at his maximum and Claudia will try to let him see this.
Tyler is Chris’s best friend and he’s also the captain of the hockey team. Karen is his girlfriend and she will become friend with Claudia. She’s a little crazy and I like her.
Claudia and Chris as couples are great, I like when they are together, it’s really nice to see them be themselves and not who the people want them to be.
This book is also a story about nerd and popular people in school. I like the story and I like how Claudia thinks and takes her decision. It’s hard for her and she must think of her future and also of what she wants. I also like the fact that Chris is so much better than he thinks, he’s not just a hockey player, and he can be good in math and chemistry if he try. Same goes for hockey if he try harder he could be a NHL player.
I really like this book, probably because when I was in college I was a little like Claudia, alone and always studying. The story is very well written and I like all the characters, they are all interesting or irritating. I don’t like Claudia’s mother because she wants her daughter to study to go in a great school, but she doesn’t see that she has no life, she didn’t enjoy her college year, doesn’t go to party or to game night. I don’t like her friend Annalise either, she’s always in her books and I don’t thinks it’s bad, but when Claudia begins to have new friends, she’s acting so weird and it’s her who is changing.
I can’t speak for everyone and tell you that you will love this book but I loved it and I really hope that it will be your case too.
