Synopsis
After thwarting a deadly coup and saving the alliance between their worlds, Cara and Aelyx have finally earned a break. Their tiny island colony is everything they dreamed it would be―days spent gathering shells on the beach and nights in each other’s arms.
But the vacation is short-lived.
The treaty between Earth and L’eihr has awakened an ancient force that threatens to destroy them all. The Aribol, mysterious guardians charged with maintaining interstellar peace, deem the alliance a threat to the galaxy. They order a separation of the races, decreeing humans and L’eihrs must return to their own planets within the month or face extinction. In fact, they already have agents in place on Earth, ready to begin.
With the clock ticking, Aelyx and Cara assemble a team of colonists and race back to Earth, where they unite with old friends to solve the mystery of who the Aribol are, what they want, and the real reason the alliance has provoked them. As tensions build to a full-scale war, Aelyx and Cara must fight harder than ever―not just for their future, but for the survival of both their worlds.
Review
This book takes place right after Invaded, Aelyx and Cara goes to the colony where they will spend some time together before the others arrive. But problems are coming too; they will have to fight to save their planets because The Aribol is not nice and peaceful.
The first part of the book is on L’eihr, at first only Cara and Aelyx are there and the moments are intense and sexy. After that humans and clones arrives, problems begin because it’s difficult for humans to not choose their work and it’s also difficult for clone because humans love contact. The second part of the book and the bigger is on earth, The Aribol want to see the clone on L’eihr and the humans on earth. They are threatening both races to extinction if they don’t obey.
I will stop there for the story and talk about the characters. Cara takes decision that sometimes could cost her everything she loves, she’s following her instinct. She’s more mature and it’s important because she’s got a lot of responsibilities now. I understand why she’s frustrated on earth about Syrine and Aelyx and I love her strong character.
Aelyx is protective with Syrine, and Cara of course but after Syrine goes through he took care of her feelings. He doesn’t see what Cara and Larish see, that will be a problem but not for long.
A thing I love about this series is there isn’t a love triangle, Cara and Aelyx love each other and could die for each other. I like this kind of love because it’s rare and magical.
Now for the secondary characters there is Troy and Elle, I like the way Melissa Landers bring them together very slowly, and I also like the relation between Troy and Cara. It’s a brother-sister relation, not like the one between Aelyx and Elle.
Syrine is dead inside because of her loss, she doesn’t see how she can be better but I like her strength and I think that Syrine is a very important character. The book won’t be the same without her.
Larish is awesome, I like how his mind are working and without him, the team won’t be complete. The last character I like is Jake, he’s not a bad guy, he doesn’t like to follow Cara’s order but he makes some effort.
This series was good and this final book is the perfect ending. Melissa Landers is a very talented woman, until now I read all her books and I’m amazed by her work, she writes very well and her characters are a deepness I won’t find in every book.
If you haven’t read this series, do it and come here to tell me what you think. Promises I won’t bite you if you don’t like.
Quick Word: The perfect ending for an amazing series.
