Dorothy Must Die

Synopsis :

I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still the yellow brick road, though—but even that’s crumbling.

What happened?
Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I’m the other girl from Kansas.
I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I’ve been trained to fight.
And I have a mission:
Remove the Tin Woodman’s heart.
Steal the Scarecrow’s brain.
Take the Lion’s courage.
Then and only then—Dorothy must die!

The story :

Amy finds herself in the country of Oz further to a tornado which took place in her native Kansas. It reminds you anything? It is normal. However Dorothy is henceforth a princess of Oz and the magic is dying. Good witches are wicked and wicked witches are good. Dorothy must die.

The character :

Amy lives in a trailer in Kansas, with a drug-addict mom, no dad, and no future.  She lands, thankfully intact, but it soon became very clear that she’s not in Kansas anymore but in Oz and Oz is bad news. She is honest, kind and she must learn to defend herself and don’t trust anyone.

Pete is the first person Amy met in Oz, he saved her and vanished without explanation. He’s a little weird, I like him but until the end we don’t know who he really is.

Ollie is a monkey saved by Amy, it’s his fault if she is held in Dorothy’s castle in the beginning.

Mombi, Gert and Glamora are wicked witchs or good lol, They are helping Amy and tell her that Dorothy Must Die.

Nox is a wizard and he is a little distant at first but after some times spend to entailing Amy, he becomes more protective.

Dorothy is a bitch, I have nothing else to say about her, she is really really bad.

The Tin woodman is scary as the Scarecrow and his experimentations.

The lion eat people.

My review :

This book is great, it’s nice to read a book about Oz but not with the nice Dorothy. I like the style and the rhythm is the writing of Danielle Paige. We never know if we can trust somebody, the only person we trust is Amy. Others want all to obtain something of Amy, without asking her opinion and especially without taking into account her feelings and her fears. I liked the descriptions of the landscapes, characters and links which created between all the protagonists.

But if you want some romance you won’t find what you want, the romance is not too present but I hope that in book 2 the links will deepen a little.

If you want a good book with a story different from the one that you usually read, buy Dorothy Must Die.
