Sixteen-year-old physics nerd Aysel is obsessed with plotting her own death. With a mother who can barely look at her without wincing, classmates who whisper behind her back, and a father whose violent crime rocked her small town, Aysel is ready to turn her potential energy into nothingness.
There’s only one problem: she’s not sure she has the courage to do it alone. But once she discovers a website with a section called Suicide Partners, Aysel’s convinced she’s found her solution: a teen boy with the username FrozenRobot (aka Roman) who’s haunted by a family tragedy is looking for a partner.
Even though Aysel and Roman have nothing in common, they slowly start to fill in each other’s broken lives. But as their suicide pact becomes more concrete, Aysel begins to question whether she really wants to go through with it. Ultimately, she must choose between wanting to die or trying to convince Roman to live so they can discover the potential of their energy together. Except that Roman may not be so easy to convince.
Aysel is a sad young girl, her dad is in prison and all the city know her name who is always link with the act of her father. Now the only thing she wants is dying. For that she search a partner, she wants a person to do it with her because she’s afraid. She found Roman, a nice boy with a good reputation who doesn’t want to live anymore.
This book tells their story and I love it. I like Aysel, yes she’s sad but she has a little hope. This book is a beautiful sad story, beautiful because we’ll see her relation with Roman building up and evolving. They learn to trust and help each other. This story is sad because it’s about suicide and young people who wants to die. I like the relation between Aysel and Roman, they are real and it’s nice to see that. Aysel’s mother has left her husband when Aysel was one years old, she loves her daughter but she doesn’t let her see that. Aysel was with her father the week and with her mother the week end.
Some parts of the book make me thinks of Cameron from Wait for You by Jennifer L Armentrout;
“For my pet turtle” he says like I should have known all along that he had a pet turtle. He seems like that All American, Basketball playing, Hamburger eating, dog loving type.”
This book makes me feel sad but he also tells us that hope is here in every people. You just doesn’t always see it. Jasmine Warga is doing a really good job to tell us this story. She writes very well, she describes perfectly the feelings of the characters and I wanted to hug Aysel and Roman a lot of times. I have been crying a lot and I like that because it proves that Jasmine made of very good job.
I was giving an arc of this book for an honest review and this is it, My Heart and Other Black Holes is really amazing, I love it so much and I want to read it again as soon as I have a little time. You definitely MUST read this book.
