Synopsis (from goodreads)

The queen has returned.

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past . . .

She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.

The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series contrinues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

Review

I won’t talk about the story and my review can contain some spoiler but not a lot.

Aelin is just the perfect female character of all the time for me; she’s so badass, smart, kind but not fool. I love her, she hasn’t got a very great life but she has learned a lot of thing who had made her like she is now. She will be a great queen for Terrasen.

Chaol is so unjust in this book, for me all that happened is Aelin’s fault never his and even if in ToG and CoM I was loving in, now it’s not so much, or not with Aelin.

Dorian is in a bad condition in QoS, we don’t see him too much but I hope that in the next book there will be more scenes with him and Manon.

Rowan has all my love; he’s so arrogant and protective in the same time. I missed him in the first pages of QoS. I’m totally team Rowan since HoF even when he was a great asshole. Rowan and Aelin are a great team; they fight together and for each other.

Aedion is also one of my favorite characters, he loves Aelin, he wants to protect her and he’s really important for the future.

Lysandra is so great, I love her humor and I love what she is, I think she will be more important in this adventure and I totally see her with Aedion.

Nesryn is a new character and she’s very nice, I like her reactions and she’s smart and I like her with Chaol, they are great together and they are a good team.

Manon is a real wing leader but in QoS she began to think by herself and question the words and acts of her grandmother. She knows something bad will happen in Morath and she try to discover what it is. She must do some bad choice and in the end she will learn. She meet Aelin in this book and I like their meeting.

Elide is also a new character and she’s in Morath with Manon, she’s weak and she’s sad but she has her reason. I think we will see her more in the next book. I can’t say that I like her chapter because they are not so intense.

All these characters had some chapters and my favorite are Aelin because we see what happens in her head and this book is important for her because she’s meeting Arobynn again and work with him. QoS is full of feelings, memory of Sam and memory of Celeana. I also love when it’s Rowan POV because we are seeing his feelings for Aelin and his fear. Aedion’s POV is full of love and protection for Aelin. Chaol POV is less attractive because all his love for Celeana is dead when she became Aelin and I don’t like that. Dorian chapters are nice bcecause we are in the demon’s head and it’s nice to learn more about them. Manon’s chapters are nice, she evolves and I like that, and I like a certain part of the book with the wall. I really began to like her.

This book is full of action with the war, of feelings with Aelin, Arobynn, Lysandra and Sam. The past is here and I was feeling bad for Aelin because all the things that Arobynn do to her was very awful.

Queen of Shadows is for me the best book of the series for now, it’s more complicated and it’s when Aelin take her life, her court, her people in her own hand and she will do whatever to protect and help them, even if she must die for that.

I love Sarah J Maas writing style, even if there is a lot of point of view, there aren’t boring and they permit us to learn more about these different characters. I’m totally for Aelin/Rowan, Chaol/Nesryn, Aedion/Lysandra, Dorian/Manon. I think they will be great team and great couple to save the world. Even if I think Manon and Dorian will be an extremely hard couple, they both have a strong character, same for Rowan and Aelin.

I really love this book and if you haven’t began the series or read this book you must read it now absolutely.

  1. LOL, “evil love”. I haven’t read this one so I admit, I did not really read your review, because I definitely plan on reading it at some point, soon-ish. I can’t wait to read about all these new ships…

  2. Yay Queen of Shadows! Reading your review reminded me how many characters there are in this book – so many! It’s fantastic that Sarah can write all these characters and still give them so much depth and make the reader invested in every one. I’m glad you loved this one – but of course everyone must! 🙂

  3. I haven’t read it yet, but I plan to before the next book releases. I love this series!
