Amber Tate believes the worst thing she’ll suffer in life is dealing with the unrequited love she feels for her brother’s best friend, Rylen Fite. She also believes war is something unfortunate that happens places far, far away from her rural Nevada town. She’s wrong on both counts.

When an unknown organization meticulously bombs major cities in the United States and across the globe, a trickle-down effect spreads to remaining towns at an alarming speed—everything from food and water sources to technology and communications are compromised. Without leadership, the nation is split between paralysis and panic, but Amber isn’t one to hide or watch helplessly. She’s determined to put her nursing skills to use, despite the danger, even if it means working alongside the man she can never have.

In this first installment of NY Times bestselling author, Wendy Higgins’s debut New Adult series, a frighteningly realistic apocalyptic America is brought to life, entwined with searing romantic tension that will leave you eager for more.

I’ve read the first chapters on wattpad when Wendy put them here and I was in love with the story and the characters already.

First of all, you need to know that this is not a love story; there is no romance or almost none. The first chapter is a prologue, I have some theory about it but I won’t talk to you about it. There are some chapters about Amber, Tater and Rylen childhood and after that there are all adults.

Once I began Unknown I cannot stop, this book is addictive, I like the characters, the story, the plot, the setting, the bad guys and everything. This is an apocalyptic book and I love this kind of book. The book is told by Amber and only her.

Let’s talk about the characters, Amber and Tater are brother and sister, Rylen is their neighbor and Remy is Amber’s best friend. There are also Amber’s parents and great parents.

Amber is younger than Tater and she was always with him and Rylen during their childhood. She has a love interest for Rylen since her young age but he always sees her like a sister, nothing more. I like Amber, she’s strong and smart, and she doesn’t trust everyone and she follow her conscience. Sometimes I was afraid for her because the DRI and DRP aren’t very tolerant and she has a big mouth when people safety’s is questioned.

Rylen is swoonworthy, loyal, strong and intelligent. He’s in the army and he knows how to defend himself and the people he loves. Rylen is totally oblivious to the fact that Amber is in love with him, for him she’s his best friend and his sister. He doesn’t have a normal childhood, he was always with Amber’s family.

Tater and Remy are secondary characters but I like them, Tater is a man, hot and sexy, he is in the army. Remy is naïve, she trust everyone, I think this come from her father and in this world you can’t trust everyone.

I won’t talk about the story because it’s important you read it yourself and make your own theories. I can say that I like that the romance is not on the first plan even if my heart broke a lot of time because of Amber and Rylen relationship. I don’t know where Wendy find his inspiration for this book but it’s awesome and it’s been a long time since I’ve read a good book like this one.

I’m very impatient to read Unrest next year because with the end and all the questions I have, I must have some answer in the next book and maybe a little romance between Amber and Rylen because I totally ship them together.

Quick word: An Addictive story on an apocalyptic world.
