Thrilling and romantic, Once a Gypsy starts a brand new series from award-winning author Danica Winters.

“A haunting and fresh voice in paranormal romance. Be prepared for Danica Winters to ensnare you in her dark and seductive world.”―Cecy Robson, author of the Weird Girls series and 2016 Double-Nominated RITA® Finalist

Even for a clairvoyant, the future is never a sure thing.

Helena has always struggled to fit in with her Irish Traveller family. It’s not just her opposition to getting married or her determination to attend university; Helena also has one talent that sets her apart from the rest of her clan―the gift of the Forshaw, the ability to see the future.

Graham is the groundskeeper at a manor in Adare, Ireland. Though the estate appears idyllic, it holds dark secrets, and despite his own supernatural gifts, Graham can’t solve Adare Manor’s problems by himself. Desperate for help, Graham seeks out a last resort: Helena, whose skills are far greater than even she knows.

When he promises to teach her to control her powers, Helena resists, afraid both of the damage her abilities might do and her increasing attraction to the handsome groundskeeper. Her entire way of life is at risk: Any involvement, especially romantic, with non-Travellers like Graham is forbidden. But Helena’s future is anything but certain, and fate has other plans for her family, her powers, and her relationship with Graham.

The story takes place in Ireland with Irish Traveler, Helena is a traveler, she has two sisters and a brother, and she lives in a trailer with her mom, dad, brother and one sister. She hasn’t had an easy life, her mother is awful, she’s an alcoholic and she doesn’t know how to take care of her kids, Helena’s father just go out of jail. Travelers life is not a very great things for women and liberty, they all live together and the girl must be married quickly and have kids. Helena doesn’t want that, she wants to be free so she study a lot, sadly her mother is a crazy bitch and she is doing everything to ruin Helena’s life.

Helena also learns that she has a foresight gift, she has visions and she can see the future. It’s a very interesting gift, but she is just learning how to live with it. It’s because of this gift that she is now employed at the Adare Manor by Graham, he needs her to help his mother and his little brother.

I like Helena, she like her traveler’s life but not all of it, she doesn’t want to live her family like her sister but she wants to marry her man she’ll love. Sometimes I was sad for her because of her way of life, it’s not easy for me to imagines how a woman can be not educated and just live for her husband and her kids. Travelers rest with travelers, even if they fall in love with gorgers, they can’t be together and I think that it’s awful. Helena is very brave because when her father was in jail, she took care of her brother and sister while her mother just drinks. I like her reactions with Graham and they are beautiful together, even if it’s not happens often or soon.

Graham is a great man, he wants to help people and he doesn’t care that Helena is a traveler; he likes her no matter what. I like the fact that he doesn’t quit, he wants her and will do everything to have her.

The story contains a little romance and a little paranormal but this first book is more a presentation book than a real paranormal romance. I’m very impatient to read the next book and to discover more about this world.

Once a Gypsy is a good book to learn about Traveler, gift and it’s a nice Halloween read.

It was a fast reading, I couldn’t put it down, Danica Winters do a good work with this book, it’s the first book of her I read and I will continue the series with pleasure.

Quick Word: An interesting first book in Traveler’s world with great characters.
