Head down.
Don’t look up.
Never make eye contact.

Those were the words I lived by growing up, the words that protected me in an unsafe home. But words are only letters and eventually even they couldn’t keep his hands off me.

Hoping to leave behind the shattered life of my past, I find myself in a boring, small town, with an aunt I’ve never met and at a school I loathe.

But soon I learn, not everything in this world is as black and white as I’ve determined. Sometimes those we are so quick to judge often need a second, third or even fourth time to make a first impression.

And often, there are friendships and even love waiting just around the corner, if we are brave enough to take the first step.

Am I brave? Or will I hide behind these tattered gloves of mine forever?

The Tattered Gloves is the story of Willow, a young girl who goes lives with her aunt in a small city. She had a difficult past, her mother didn’t take care of her very well and a thing makes her mother send her away. Willow will learn to live with her aunt and make new friend, it will be difficult but in the end, everything will be better.

Willow is a brave girl, she was alone most of her life and she doesn’t feel like she’s brave but she’s wrong. This young girl didn’t believe in anyone, men, women, or even herself. I like to see her make new friend and discover what a friendship can be. I also like to see her with her aunt Addie, at first she doesn’t trust her but the more she knew her the more her trust arrives.

Addie is Willow’s aunt, she doesn’t know her niece and she doesn’t know she had a niece before her sister calls. She is an amazing woman, she took care of Willow and of her fears without question. She is always here for Willow and it’s beautiful to see them interacting together.

Allison is the first girl who talks to Willow in school, and I like her persistence to talk to her, and she absolutely wants to be her friend. And I must say that she is a very good friend.

Sam is, well, a sexy guy, a little arrogant but so kind. I love him, he is nice, he has some issue with his father. He works at his father’s library with Willow now, this library is everything for him and he will have to find new idea to save his library.

I like the relation between Willow and Sam, at first it’s hate at first sight but the friendship and after the love attraction between them is beautiful.

J.L Berg as always put her heart in her characters, they are beautiful and so real, the only thing you can do it’s love them all and cry with them because in the end, Willow is brave and she finally trust some people in her life. It was a hard work but she deserves all the love she has now.

Quick word: this book is beautiful, it’s a story about trust, trust in others and trust in you.
