Ten years after a chilling coup, Aria finds herself trapped in a lifestyle she never chose–one which will damage her future forever. A fortuitous set of circumstances send her back to her home, where she uncovers an inflamed kingdom on the brink of civil war. To lead them, Aria must rediscover the woman she was meant to be–and to take back the seat stolen from her as a child, she must overcome more than just her past. The only way to win is by the blade.
Review
I loved this book a lot, Aria was sent to a brothel before her ten years by her brother, after he had killed their parents and steal the throne of Aria. Because in this region, women are the one who rule. We find Aria at the dawn of her 18th birthday and thanks to Weston, she will finally find her country and unfortunately discover at the same time that her brother was not worthy of a king. She will help the rebellion with by Casimir, an exceptional mage and Valterri his brother and leader of the rebellion. She will have to learn to fight and especially to do with her past.
Aria is a young girl that I really adore, she’s lively, intelligent, she knows her weaknesses but she is full of good will, she will make a perfect queen and above all she is loved by everyone. I love her strength of character and I find it very honorable on her part to want to help her people rather than live her life elsewhere.
I loved Casimir too, he is very powerful and enigmatic, I like his way to protect Aria and you will have understood their relationship will evolve into something more romantic.
Valterri is an interesting character, he is charismatic and he leads his army with a masterly hand, he is respected and he knows how to fight. I really liked this character too.
The story is very good and the characters are endearing, you cannot help but love Aria, Casimir, Valterri and Sebastian.
Rebecca Bauer has a very fluid writing style, this book reads quickly and the story is very engaging. I will read the second volume with pleasure and I will not wait very long to do so.
Quick word: A very intense fantasy novel that deserves to be read.

I haven’t seen this one before, but I really think I would enjoy it. The characters sounds wonderful and does the story itself. Great review.
