Trapped In Silver by Emily Sowden

First book in the Eldryn Chronicles

Publisher: OfTomes Publishing

Publication Date: February 7th, 2017

Source: Paperback bought on

Rating: Evil Love

Courage comes from a shadowed place in our hearts; a blurred line that straddles love and sheer stupidity.
To seventeen-year-old Ava, wild woodcats, hungry stragglers, and simple-minded townsfolk are the evils she’s grown accustomed to. But when Ethan, an unusual man with eyes of smoke and fire opal, enters her world she quickly understands that there are worse things out there than drunken men and carnivorous forest creatures. She’s a specialised liar and a hell of a fighter, but against a group of animalistic men called Berserkers she struggles to survive the encounter as the desperate swing of a dagger is all it takes to change her life for good.
Half-dead and hunted by the Berserker’s leader when he forms a monstrous obsession with her, Ava escapes his pursuit in an unfamiliar land full of impossible creatures, unlikely allies, and the man she doesn’t know whether to kiss or kill.
But after dreadful news of her missing brother surfaces, Ava becomes more involved in the centuries-long war and begins to unravel the reasons behind her relentless nightmares, discovering truths long-buried in a violent history of love, loss and betrayal.

I bought Trapped In Silver mostly because of the cover, but let me tell you that this book is amazing. The story is perfect, magical with friendship, secrets, love and family.

I love Ava, she’s independent and she knows that she’s different from others girls. She’s stubborn and doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do; she takes care of her father’s farm practically alone. She has only her adopted brother, Roan to help her but he’s often absent.

Ethan is a mysterious boy, I knew he had a secret but to tell you all, I wasn’t thinking about this one. I like his chivalrous side, he tries to protect Ava, whom he has only recently known, but at the same time he tries not to get too close to her.

I loved their approach and the attraction that they feel for each other that is forging little by little. I also like the character of Ava who stands up to Ethan and also to the others.

I love the story that is original and transports us into a magical adventure and populated with mysterious creature. The bad guys are really wicked and the good ones can also sometimes be evil. I love the family spirit that prevails in this book, not only for blood’s family but also for the one we choose.

I really want to read more and see where Emily Sowden is going to take her characters. The end is quite tragic and I hope that everything will happen for the better even if there are still many unknowns.

I loved the writing style of Emily Sowden; she knew how to combine suspense, humor and also tragedy. She has steady rhythm, while describing perfectly the characters or places.

Trapped in Silver is her first book and I hoped she will not stop in such good way that she has talent.

Quick word: A mysterious adventure but magical creatures.
