Synopsis

When college sophomore Angela Birch sneaks from Texas to Mexico for Spring Break, she believes the worst that can happen is her parents finding out.

Wrong.

Colin Douglas’s future was seized and choked when deliberate tragedy struck his Scottish family at the age of sixteen. He spent his remaining youthful years infiltrating the U.K.’s crime world, seeking power, control, and revenge, all leading to a position as an undercover agent. With nothing to lose, Colin accepts the seemingly impossible job of rescuing America’s famous missing girl, Angela Birch. Colin knows that to enter a snake lair, one must become a snake. It turns out to be a mission which will put his desire for control to the ultimate test, and make him wish for things he never knew he wanted.

Review

I had this book on my shelf since 2016 and I really don’t know why I didn’t read it before. Escape from paradise is a dark romance and it’s very good. I couldn’t put it down, it was so beautiful and dark.

Angela is a very strong woman, yes at the beginning of the book she was stupid and naïve but I’m impressed by her strength. She’s in a really bad place and sadly she will be forced to do things she doesn’t like. But she’ll keep hope even in the dark times.

Colin’s past was tragic, but he became a strong man, who is also forced to do bad things but for the good cause. He must let his feelings aside to save Angela but it’s not so easy.

The story talks about slavery, sex slavery and it’s not a positive subject but sadly it happens in the world even if we know anything about it. At the beginning of the book I couldn’t stop thinking and talking to Angela and saying her, No don’t go with him, no don’t drink this, No don’t do this but it’s not a book where you are the heroes so everything happened. When Angela is taken to Spain, at first she keeps hope and she doesn’t let everyone inside her mind, but sometimes it’s hard to live in the dark without love. Fortunately, if I can say that, she wasn’t alone; four other slaves were with her at the mansion. Their purpose was to be here for every patron who needs sex.

When I think of the time she was there I’m impressed by her strength again, because she was broken but she had a little faith in the future.

I don’t know how to explain this but the story of Angela and Colin is beautiful in its darkness, they are both broken for diverse reasons but in the end they are perfect for each other. I really like these two characters, I also like the bad guy because yes he’s bad but he also has a sense of honor and he took care of his possession. I know it’s bad to said it like that but it’s true.

Gwendolyn Field has a real talent to write sex scene who are hot and sexy even in the dark place where they happens. I’m impatient to read other books from her and see where will bring us this time.

Quick word: A beautiful and dark love story, with sex slavery and hope.

About the author

She’s a wife, a mom, a daughter, a friend and a writer. She’s just your average chick, but with a wickedly sexy imagination and the urge to write it down.

ESCAPE FROM PARADISE is her first adult novel (contemporary dark romance). INTO THE STARS is her second, a futuristic erotic romance.

She’s also a YA author under another name.
