Synopsis
You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.
The first lesson is to make yourself strong.
After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.
When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.
Review
This book is absolutely brilliant, the rhythm is slow enough at first to leave time to remember to all the characters.
Jude is a character I particularly like, she is strong and independent, she knows how to manage the Fairies, Cardan, her adoptive father and her sister. I am quite impressed by her diverse talents and frankly I am afraid for her.
Cardan, on the other hand, inspires me with a lot of feelings, I really appreciate him, I find him a very interesting character, he is tortured but at the same time he invests a little and it makes me happy.
The relationship between Cardan and Jude is becoming much more complex, and I was totally on my ass at the end. Frankly, my first reaction was Why, but when I think about it I still have hope.
I recently discovered that the release of the third volume had been brought forward and I have been happy ever since. I’m really looking forward to finding out if Jude is going to be fine, what’s going to happen to Cardan and how things are going to end for everyone.
Holly Black managed to train me even more in this story, the first volume was great but this one is still a level above. I look forward to November.
Quik word: A second book even more brilliant than the first.
Chronique
