Synopsis
Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:
1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.
No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.
But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?
Review
If you follow me, you know I discovered Tricia Levenseller last year and I’ve been addicted to her books ever since. The Shadows between us is no exception. I loved that book, the characters aren’t “nice” like the author herself says, she wanted to write a “Slytherin” romance.
Alessandra is a young girl full of potential but her father doesn’t find her interesting. When Alessandra decides to charm the king of shadows, her father doesn’t believe she is capable of such a feat.
First of all, I want you to know that I love Alessandra’s character. She loves boys but especially she loves to use them since she had a sentimental disappointment with her first love.
She knows what she wants, she is extremely intelligent and machiavellian. However she will learn to make friends. She also has a lot of imagination and creativity. She designs dresses that are absolutely sublime.
The King of Shadows is a very mysterious character. He is not quite tangible, shall we say, but I like him. He is charismatic and he wants to find his parents’ killers at all costs.
He’s going to trust Alessandra and I think they are two characters that go perfectly well together. They have the same reactions, they don’t hesitate to make drastic decisions. I like the way their brains work.
I loved the story, the mystery around the king is intriguing, as is finding out who might be guilty. I really loved everything about this book and I can only advise it to everyone.
Tricia Levenseller’s pen is beautiful, she takes us into the story and attaches us to her characters.
Quick word: A must-read book.
Chronique
The Shadows between us n’est pas une exception.
Initially from a small town in Oregon, Tricia now lives next to the Rocky Mountains with her bossy dog, Rosy. She received her degree in English Language and editing and is thrilled that she never has to read a textbook again. When she’s not writing or reading, Tricia enjoys putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing volleyball, playing OVERWATCH, and watching shows while eating extra-buttered popcorn.
