Synopsis
Our heroes are back… kind of. From the bestselling co-authors of the Illuminae Files comes the second book in the epic series about a squad of misfits, losers, and discipline cases who just might be the galaxy’s best hope for survival.
First, the bad news: an ancient evil—you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal—is about to be unleashed. The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They’ve just got to take care of a few small distractions first.
Like the clan of gremps who’d like to rearrange their favorite faces.
And the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be, who’ll stop at nothing to get their hands on Auri.
Then there’s Kal’s long-lost sister, who’s not exactly happy to see her baby brother, and has a Syldrathi army at her back. With half the known galaxy on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted.
When they learn the Hadfield has been found, it’s time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them. But time is short, and if Auri can’t learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV.
Shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gifts, inappropriately tight bodysuits, and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion’s most unforgettable heroes—and maybe the rest of the galaxy as well.
Review
I was looking forward to this second book, I loved the first one, the end was a harbinger of the worst and Aurora Burning put me through all kinds of emotions.
Tyler, Scarlett, Finian, Zila, Kal and Auri continue their adventure, they are now wanted but some people are still on their side. They will have to find a way to kill the Ra’haam and save the planet. They will also meet Saedii.
I don’t really know how to tell you about this book without saying too much, I really loved it but of course everything isn’t going perfectly.
Auri is going to learn more about her mission, about what she has to do to save the planet. Her relationship with Kal is evolving and I find them both so adorable, however she will be put to the test because of Kal’s secrets.
Tyler and Scarlett will have to learn to overcome their grief and not always rely on each other.
Finian and Zila will have an important role to play in this book and probably in the next one as well.
In all honesty, there’s nothing I didn’t like except that ending. I don’t know if what I want will turn out or not, but I’m hopeful with everything that’s going on in this book that this ending won’t be hopeless.
I loved Kal, he understands his relationship with Auri very well, he doesn’t go too fast so as not to scare her. Indeed he has kept a rather huge secret from everyone and that’s what will cause the most problems. However I think they all reacted badly, I understand their shock at this revelation but he has always been on their side.
Auri is a character that I like very much, I think she’s matured since the first volume, she’s really part of the team now. The end of this book is also important for her, I respect the fact that she wanted to face the evil on her own but I regret that she didn’t have more confidence in Kal.
Tyler acted like a real Alpha in that book, he thought of his team first. I’m very afraid for him but I like the beginning of the relationship (I have no other words than this one but it’s not a relationship) between Tyler and Saedii. I don’t know how it will end but I would like it to go well.
Scarlett has some important decisions to make, she will have to manage without Tyler and rely on Zila, Finian, Kal and Auri. She will feel betrayed by Kal and of all the reactions it is hers that I find the most logical. She’s the one who’s the most betrayed. I like the lightness of the passages where Scarlett speaks, there is always a bit of humour.
I like Finian, he is adorable, intelligent and funny. He always has the word to lighten the mood and let’s face it, he saves the day more than once.
Zila is adorable, I like her associal side, she makes an effort to be funny and every time it fails. However Zila knows how to pilot and evaluate situations, she has saved the life of her team more than once.
I really loved this book and I’m very impatient to discover the last one, unfortunately we’ll have to wait another year and I don’t know if my heart will hold out.
Quick word: Be prepared to be devastated by emotions and questions.
Chronique
