white hot kiss

Synopsis :

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.
Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.
Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.
But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

The story :

Wardens are at war against the demons and some of them do not appreciate that Layla was raised by Abbot, some of them would like to see her dead because she represents a danger. To help, Layla marks the demons so that Warden can find them and hunt them. However more and more demons go out of hell to look for Layla and kill her. Roth is going to help her and to protect her as best he can and he will be there to teach her more on herself and her origins.

The characters :

Layla managed to go to the school and not to be schooled-home any more. Of this fact she has 2 friends at the high school where she goes, Sam and Stacey. Layla is a character whom I appreciated a lot, she is quick on the draw, knows how to defend herself and does not hesitate to fight. She is very close to Zayne in spite of the fact that she is in love with him, she tells him almost everything. She is unfortunate because certain Wardens are afraid that she sucks up their soul and she suffers silently. She want to be a normal girl and kiss boys.

Zayne is as a brother for Layla, he protects her as much as he can and helps her to feel good. It is his father who took in Layla when she was a child. Moreover the latter would like very much that Zayne chooses a woman and if it could be Danika he would like very much. Zayne is a sexy, protective man and who does not realize when he makes Layla suffer.

Roth is my character male preferred, he has a crazy charm, he is tattooed, he is HOT, nice and I adore its repartees, his jokes, his sex appeal, finally I’ll keep him entirely and throw nothing. For me he exceeds Daemon Black and that is something. When it comes to protect Layla he doesn’t hesitate, whether it is demons or Wardens. He is soft, thoughtful, protective, reckless person. He has a rather caustic sense of humor, I not spoilering you but I like very much Bambi and I look forward to discovering Thumper. That intrigues you so well read the book but attention ROTH is Mine, I do not share, I do not lend, I leave you all other Reyes, Daemon, Barrons, Ryodan.).

Abbot is Zayne’s father, it’s him who took Layla, raises her and protects her as best he can. Certainly he hides her the truth. We feel that he is attached to Layla and even if sometimes he can by hard, we feel that he loves her.

Sam and Stacey are both human friends of Layla. Sam is a geek, who plays video games and knows everything on everything. You have a question, he has the answer. Stacey is the good friend, who says what she has to say, she speaks a lot of sex, especially since Roth. Both know for Wardens because they showed themselves publicly but on the other hand they think both that Layla is human.

Elijah and his son Petr are Wardens of passages at Abbot, they have never loved Layla, have already tried to kill her and will still retry. I several times wanted to kill Petr myself. As for his father we see him little but we know that it is an important character.

My review :

I adored this book, like always when we speak about Jennifer L Armentrout. It is the first time I read a book on gargoyles and frankly she has an overflowing imagination. I liked the way she describes their natural skin. I have laugh a lot, there is action and we are not bored a single minute. I look forward to reading the volume 2, Stone Cold Touch, which will go out in October, 2014 and when we should see a little more of Zayne. I know that there is a love triangle and it didn’t bother me because Layla is certainly in love with Zayne but is it real or not because she hasn’t been with a boy. While what she can feel for Roth is based on facts. She learnt to know him, to trust him and their relation built itself differently. For me there is only Roth, Zayne is interesting but not enough, we shall see where Jennifer L Armentrout will take us with Stone Cold Touch.

More :

You can read Bitter Sweet Love which is the story of Jasmine and Dez. You will not see Dez in White Hot Kiss but you will see Jasmine and especially in BSL you will meet young Layla and Zayne.

The book 2, Stone Cold Touch, will go out on October 28th, 2014 and the cover has just been revealed.

J.M Rising Horse Creations is a talented artist who has imagine Roth and Layla, you can find her artwork on her facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RisingHorseCreations?fref=ts) and I have already bought Roth and I think Layla and Zayne will come to join Roth and her other creation at my home.
