Sydney Westbrook has had enough.
After a fight with her abusive ex-boyfriend leaves her in the hospital once again, she knows it’s time for a change. Just out of college, Sydney decides to accept a position as a live-in nurse. But leaving the comfort of Atlanta and the support of her small circle of friends is hard to do. And when she meets her ailing, stubborn client, Sydney second guesses all of her choices.
A southern family with a social status to maintain, the McNamara’s think very little of Sydney, especially since she reminds Mrs. McNamara so much of the daughter-in-law she never accepted. But when Sydney encounters Quinn, the defiant grandson, her views of the family begin to change. And her heart begins to heal the hole left behind by the abuse.
Sydney and Quinn may have little time together, but they make the most out of it. A public display of their relationship is short-lived when Sydney learns just how far her client will go to save her family’s namesake. And when Sydney’s past suddenly rips into her new world, her happiness with Quinn threatens to come to an end.
But truth and friendship will help Sydney finally live the life she’s chosen while loving the one she chose.
First of all, I didn’t know this author before this book, as you maybe know I love New Adult where people have problems. I don’t know why, maybe because they seems more real, everyone have problem in real life, some big, some little. I really like this book, the feelings I got when reading it were so intense and I like when I feel the characters and what happen to them. Now let’s go for the story.
Sydney changes her life and move out, away from her best friends but mostly away from her abusive ex-boyfriend who tried to kill her. She is a live-in-nurse and now she is living in the McNamara’s house and takes care of Mrs McNamara, an old woman who is not always nice. Fortunately for her, the house keeper Mr Cobb and his son Eli are here, she will also met Mrs McNamara’s grandson, Quinn. Her past will find her everywhere and she will have to fight and be brave.
Sydney is a great girl, she is smart and she loves her job, she chooses geriatric, she chooses to work with old patient near from death. And just for this reason, I like her, it’s not always easy to work with people who know they will die soon, they can be angry, evil or full of regrets. She is strong too because she has the courage to leave the man who beats her, she made some mistake that she will probably regret but she is trying to be a new Sydney. It’s not a surprise if I tell you that she will fall for Quinn.
Quinn is sure that his grandmother doesn’t like him, he is not a very good grandson for her, but now his father forces him to live in the McNamara’s house until his grandmother dies. His problem isn’t sordid but the life of a boy with this fortune and reputation is not always easy. He is a very good guy, kind, smart and sweet. I like him, he doesn’t hesitate to challenge his grandmother and his father, he is attracted by Sydney and will do everything to take care of her. He likes his grandmother and even if he appears as the man who doesn’t care, that’s not true.
I like how this relation is building; it’s slow in the pace and intense in the love side. They are good for each other. Their relation is not easy because of Greyson and also because of the McNamara’s family but they must find a way to live.
Sydney’s best friends Cass and Raelyn are amazing, Raelyn is the good girl and Cass is the crazy one. I think I love Cass a lot more. These girls are everything for Sydney and I’m impatient to read their story and I hope that we will see Quinn and Sydney again in their books.
Sydney is trying to live again without fear that Greyson is attacking her, which is quite complex, you can imagine. What he did to her is a pretty horrible thing, this man is disturbed, he didn’t deserve Sydney. For Quinn’s father, I think he’s a hypocrite, this man married a woman his mother didn’t approve of, but his son has to do absolutely everything he wants, all this for the family’s reputation.
This book made me feels a lot of things, I was happy, angry, I was crying and all of this is very good, we need to feel alive sometimes.
Amber Garr’s writing style is good, I read this book in 4 hours, I didn’t want to put it down, the story is intense and I wanted to know what will happens even if there isn’t any surprise, I was excited to finish it and I was not disappointed. I’m impatient to read the other book in the series and I will probably read other book from this author.
