Synopsis
There’s no wrath like that of a witch scorned.
As one of the only spirit users in her coven, Avah has been chosen to wield The Power, the ultimate weapon against the immortal vampire species witches have been at war with for centuries.
But on the night of her birth rite, Avah’s coven is attacked. Forced to seek refuge among the very beings she’s sworn to kill, Avah vows revenge on those who took her former life from her.
As Avah slowly transitions into a life of blood and war, she realizes everything she’s been told is a lie.
Review
Avah is a witch of the mind, when she uses the other elements; her powers are less strong, so she learned to fight with a sword. She’s the chosen; she will inherit the powers to be able to defend her people against the vampires. On the night of the ritual, when she enters full possession of her powers, her coven is attacked and she’s on the verge of death. She asks one of the vampires who come to help them to transform her.
Jasik is the vampire who transformed Avah, he took her under his protection and brought her back to the mansion of vampires. In a hierarchical level, witches and vampires are organized more or less in the same way. Avah will discover another world and she will also discover that all vampires are not bloodthirsty monsters.
I loved Avah, she’s young, fresh, and voluntary, dynamic and even if she would prefer that her life isn’t that of the chosen, she will do everything she can to save humans and witches. She has trouble getting rid of her prejudices at first but the more she frequents Jasik and the more she realizes she didn’t know everything.
Jasik is a gentleman, I don’t find him vampiric enough, he’s tender and kind, which doesn’t fit too much with a being who kills other vampires to protect his race.
The story is interesting, there is action, intensity, attraction, magic and all the elements that make a novel successful. I like the style of the author; she manages to put us in the skin of Avah without problem. I cannot wait to read the second book and discover the secrets of Sebastian, I don’t know if the author is planning a little love triangle but I do not hope.
Quick word: A first book that puts us in the mood, with a witch who tries to integrate among her new breed.
