They failed. Evan and Cyrus risked everything to keep the Uprising from attacking the unarmed Union, but something went terribly wrong. Evan’s home has been invaded by soldiers who are killing government officials and occupying the homes of her fellow citizens.

Captured by the Uprising, Evan fights for her life and her sanity, desperate to escape so she can find Cyrus and her family.

Reeling from an unexpected discovery, Cyrus is adrift until he uses his Uprising training to find a way to fight back against the invading force the only way he knows how.

With the help of old friends and new, they will do whatever it takes to protect each other and those they love, even if it means sacrificing being together, their way of life, and even their very lives.

I was a Beta reader and I can tell you that welcome changes have been made to the story. I love this series, I find that the subject is very well chosen and although sometimes the reaction of the characters exasperates me, I understand them anyway.

The book begins exactly where the previous tome stopped; I will try not to spoil you too much.

Evan is on a train and wants to find Tony, however the train is attacked by the Rebellion, Evan tries to escape and not only she doesn’t get there but she’s recognized. She’s taken to a place where she will be tortured for information. I leave the suspense on the person who tortures her but I can tell you that these scenes are very well written and that I had feeling really bad for Evan.

Cyrus decides to go see Evan, unfortunately she’s already gone, he tries to leave and on his way he will meet new allies.

All this little world is going to end up together, and trying to fight, the tensions grow within the group for various and varied reasons.

You will probably find me sadistic but I really appreciated the fact that Evan is tortured, I think it brings a lot to the story, Evan becomes more aware of the danger and the people around her are aware of what ‘she did. I like that Mateo protects her, I think it’s important in the group to have good relationship and that is the case. As much to say that the problem of communication between Evan and Cyrus has not settled but this is Bryce’s fault, as always. Yes I don’t like Bryce, he exasperates me and behaves like a kid, it kills me to see him try to break a couple and make Evan suffer.

We find all the characters we love and even some we like less. We discover new characters irritating to the possible for some and almost invisible for others. I don’t know how the story will end but I would still like to see Evan suffer a little less and Cyrus a little more present for her.

T.H Hernandez has created an interesting story full of suspense and twists. The characters are all interesting, they all have their peculiarities and are all important for history.

Quick Word: A fourth book that shows us the sadistic side of the Rebellion and shows us that everybody can rebel in its own way.
