It’s hard enough being an undergraduate student, an intern at Downtown Manhattan’s police station, and a bouncer at a local bar. Add her now ex-boyfriend who recently dumped her for the school’s resident bimbo—oh, and she’s a werewolf.
It had been a while since I had read stories with werewolves, vampires and other supernatural characters. It had been a bit lacking and I’m glad I got back in with Kenzie.
Kenzie is not an ordinary girl, she’s a werewolf, she doesn’t know how she became one, but one day she has transformed herself and every month it’s a terrible pain. Always happy that her best friend Amy is there to help, at every full moon, Makenzie locks herself in a cage at home to not hurt anyone. She meets Jonah, Jackson and Sebastian from the Brooklyn pack, they aren’t particularly happy because Kenzie has a strong character and loves her independence more than anything. She doesn’t accept to leave the ground to her wolf, which causes pain during her transformations.
Thanks to the pack she will learn to understand herself and to advance, however she will also have to find out who kidnapped the supernatural beings, while preserving her freedom because the women are not really free in the pack.
I really liked Kenzie, she’s a girl who doesn’t let herself go, she’s stubborn but adorable. She cannot accept what she really is and she’s afraid of her wolf, which I can totally understand.
Jonah is the first werewolf she meets, he’s the Beta of the pack and he’s also the best friend of the Alpha, Sebastian. He’s strongly attracted to Kenzie and very sexy, he still has a more tender side than Sebastian and especially he’s more understanding.
Sebastian is the Alpha by excellence, he hates being resisted and when he wants something he gets it. Well, that was before Kenzie, she resists him and she also resists the pack, she knows how to fight and doesn’t hesitate to provoke Sebastian, which does not really solve her problem with the pack. I must admit that I’m a little afraid of the love triangle looming, I don’t like it at all and even if until now Kenzie is attracted by Jonah and Sebastian, nothing happens, remains to see what they will do.
I loved Amy, she’s really a loyal friend who does not hesitate to defend Kenzie.
I would read the other books with pleasure if only to find out who Kenzie really is, because I have the impression that some people are aware and I would also like to know. I would also like to know if she will make a choice and which one will be.
Quick Word: A first thrilling book that makes you want more.
Bodies drained of blood are scattered around New York City. With a serial killer on the loose, Mackenzie Grey is obsessed with solving the murders. She dives into her work at the Supernatural Investigative Unit to forget about the events that dismantled her Pack a year ago. When the killer makes Kenz the target, she falls down the rabbit hole and discovers she has a lot more to do with these murders than she realized.
