Synopsis
She’s tackling her demons in the City of Angels.
Secret McQueen has been many things in her life: head of the Vampire Tribunal, werewolf queen twice over, bounty hunter, fighter, lover. She’s been the hunter and the hunted. Hell, she even died once.
One thing she never thought she’d be, however, was a normal human. Because “normal” was never a word to apply to her.
Now, Secret’s a former vampire/werewolf-hybrid living in a human’s body. She continues to answer the call of the supernatural, working for an elite FBI special unit designed to help the general public accept the existence of the creatures that used to only be found in nightmares. She’s happily married to the man of her dreams.
But when her old vampire mentor Sig goes missing, and her former beau Holden Chancery comes calling for help, Secret will be pulled out of her new sunny existence and sent back into the nightlife she once knew so well.
She’ll find herself asking if there’s any room for humanity in a world full of monsters.
And she might find there’s more than a little monster left in her, still.
Review
Secret is now human, she works for the FBI in New York and her husband, Desmond, the King of Werewolves lives in Los Angeles, they don’t see each other often and there are many conflicts even if they love each other. When Secret discovers that people are trying to open a portal for demons and Sig is missing, she starts looking for him, even if it means leaving feathers there.
I still love Secret as much as ever, she is funny, confident, she has wit, she never lets herself be defeated. It is true that I would have liked to see her a little more with Desmond but I also understand her reticence, she has a past in New York that is not necessarily nice and I can understand that she needs changes.
Desmond is present of course, Holden as well as Mercedes, Tyler, Shane, Sig and Emilio. It was a real pleasure to meet all these people again, I loved meeting Harrold, I laughed with him and Secret.
Everything is there to ensure that these reunions are perfect.
Sierra Dean pleased her fans by writing another book and I want her to continue because I don’t want to let Secret McQueen go.
Quick Word: A particularly pleasant new book, full of good moments and reunions that go smoothly.
Chronique
About the author
Sierra Dean is a reformed historian. She was born and raised in the Canadian prairies and is allowed annual exit visas in order to continue her quest of steadily conquering the world one city at a time. Making the best of the cold Canadian winters, Sierra indulges in her less global interests: drinking too much tea and writing urban fantasy.
Ever since she was a young girl she has loved the idea of the supernatural coexisting with the mundane. As an adult, however, the idea evolved from the notion of fairies in flower beds, to imagining that the rugged-looking guy at the garage might secretly be a werewolf. She has used her overactive imagination to create her own version of the world, where vampire, werewolves, fairies, gods and monsters all walk among us, and she’ll continue to travel as much as possible until she finds it for real.
She’s also a book lover (of course!), obsessive collector of OPI nailpolish and the owner of way too many pairs of shoes.
