Synopsis

There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for.

Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.

More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

Review

I discovered Tricia Levenseller with Warrior of the wild, I loved this book so much and I had her first duology in my library so I took the plunge. I’m glad I did it because this book is absolutely awesome.

Alosa is the daughter of the pirate king, she’s captain of her ship and her mission is to be captured in order to find a treasure map. Riden is an obstacle in her quest but she will live a quite exciting adventure.

Alosa is a great captain, her crew is almost entirely made up of women, what I appreciate is that her entire crew trusts her. She respects them and vice versa. Alosa is a young girl who knows what she wants, she knows she’s strong and intelligent but that doesn’t stop her from getting screwed at times. I love Alosa, she’s independent and does not let herself be stepped on, she knows how to defend herself and she protects her crew.

Riden is not an angel but frankly he’s so sweet that you wonder what he’s hiding. He didn’t have an easy childhood but his brother has always protected him and that is why now he protects him in his turn. This doesn’t prevent him from protecting Alosa from evil pirates and from being attracted to her too.

I simply loved this book, I laughed and I was intrigued by the characters and enjoyed the story. The characters are complex and the relationship between Alosa and Riden is evolving logically and slowly.

Tricia Levenseller is a real talented woman; she created a story which will bring you on an adventure. She is now on my auto buy author list with Wendy Higgins, Jennifer L Amrentrout, Sarah J Maas and Renée Ahdieh.

Quick word: An amazing story with powerful characters.

Chronique
