Synopsis

From debut author V.P. Ortiz comes a sweet and compelling NA romance novel that will have you booking your next vacation to Hawaii to find an island love of your own!

Mila Quinn is ready to finally move out of the college dorms into an apartment with her longtime boyfriend, Ethan Lowe. But when Ethan reveals a big secret, her world is suddenly turned upside down, stirring up old memories of love and loss. Completely torn apart, she boards a plane to Hawaii to escape for the summer.

Even though Mila wants to spend her time in paradise in isolation, fate has other plans when it drops sexy local Gage Madden in her lap. Hesitant at first, she agrees to let him take the reins on her island exploration. As Mila discovers the wonders of Oahu with Gage, it becomes harder for her to fight the budding attraction between them.

But behind the curtain of island adventures and undeniable chemistry, trouble is brewing where Mila least expects it. Secrets begin to bubble to the surface that could destroy her all over again. Will Mila find her paradise? Or will she leave Hawaii with another broken heart?

Review

Mila spends her vacation in Hawaii to be pampered by her aunt and cousin. Her boyfriend told her a pretty hard news to cash, especially after a 3 year relationship. She meets Gage on the plane and will follow an interesting adventure and especially a discovery of Oaku.

Mila is a young girl who lost her parents and her only family is her aunt and her cousin Baylee. Her only relation is with Ethan and all the friends she has are Ethan’s, so when the break is done she hasn’t any friends left. She is very kind with the people she loves, I love her relation with Baylee, they are cousin but more than that, they are best friends.

Mila has trouble knowing what she wants with Ethan, and especially she has a hard time forgetting. What I can understand is that a 3-year relationship is important enough for her to think before making a decision. That said, from my point of view, what he has done is unpardonable, we don’t do that kind of thing without protecting ourselves if we love and respect the person we are with. As much to say I hate Ethan.

Gage is a charming boy, one would even wonder if such a pearl really exists. He realizes that Mila is not ready for a new relationship but he is slowly trying to show her that she can trust him. He’s patient and tender with her; he makes her discover his island and helps her to climb the slope. I appreciate Gage very much, he’s human and like any man, he can make mistakes but he has a good background.

In the interesting characters there is Baylee, Aunt Sophie and Liam. Aunt Sophie raised Mila after the death of her parents, so she considers her as her own daughter, who makes Baylee happy since she even considers Mila as her sister. Aunt Sophie is always encouraging and she doesn’t hesitate to push Mila towards photography. Baylee is young and full of enthusiasm but behind all this hides a girl who has suffered. I love these two women; they are so sweet and adorable.

Liam is Gage’s brother, he’s a seducer and even if he’s seen very little, he’s very protective of his little brother. I would very much like to know his story and maybe the author will tell us about it in another volume.

Ethan is an idiot, as you can see I do not like him, he irritates me and his reactions are awful.

At first I was a little afraid because the story reminded me enormously Summer of Sloane by Erin L. Schneider, and indeed there are many similarities. However, I have attached myself to Mila and the main characters are really different. The story reads very quickly and is addictive; I had a hard time stopping to read.

This is the first book by V.P Ortiz that I read and I really enjoyed this story. I love the environment, obviously you will say, who doesn’t like Hawaii! The characters are interesting and very well described, the story itself is full of clichés but sometimes it does good not to be surprised.

Quick Word: A romance based on Hawaii, what else!!!

 About the author

V.P. Ortiz lives, works, and breathes in sunny/snowy/beautiful Colorado with her loving husband, their two beautiful children, and their three fat cats. While her home may be in the Rocky Mountains, she left her heart somewhere on the island of Oahu, where she plans to retire someday in a tiny house with an avocado tree and free-range chickens. Besides reading any book in sight, her hobbies also include eating, dancing, lip syncing, and occasionally running until her husband has to pick her up eight miles away because she got lost and has a leg cramp.
